Some drawings | Einige Zeichnungen

Recently I started doing these charcoal drawings. The first one is of my mother and she is the toughest person to paint or draw, because she is very critical about the way she looks on the drawing and she apparently shows no respect to the "famous painter son". :-))

These are really remarkable drawings..I'll bet Mum is very proud of her famous son. it was great to see your comment on my blog and especially nice to click over and see what you've been up to. Your museum work is really top notch my friend. You have a perfect balance of gesture in your brushwork..absolutely remarkable.

Well done. I hope you are well.
best,
Todd

Beautiful drawings. The sense of each person's personality is evident.

Mum is great!

Excellent! Those values look spot on. I'd be pretty terrified to do a portrait of my mom too. Same critical eye.

Hi Todd,
thank you so much for your nice words. After many years of struggle my mum is calmer than she used to be, concerning my profession.

Hey Rubin,

Silvina,
I am always terrified when I paint my mum.;-)
No, she is a very nice person with loads of humor.
Thanks for dropping by.

Reminds me of Sargent's charcoal sketches.

I wish I'd done a drawing of my Mum while she was alive..

Cheers.. Andrew

Stephan, very strong drawings. I always find it interesting seeing the way a painter draws in monochrome. Particularly like the way you have done the gaze in the second one.

Andrew, comparing these drawing with Sargents is very pleasing. My Mum is great and I try to capture the time we see each other. This is not often, because we live so far apart.

Thanks Michael. I wasn´t drawing for quite some time and enjoy doing them now. I think the painterly approach is with less outlines.
One thing I dicovered, is that one can create wonderful soft edges with charcoal.
