Two more from the museum

The gaze of that monkey struck me and I thought of capturing it. Both paintings are from the last visit to the museum some time ago.

Der Blick dieses Affen zog mich so in den Bann, daß ich versuchte dies einzufangen. Beide Gemälde sind von meinem letzten Besuch im Museum, welcher schon vor einiger Zeit war.

Mantelaffe, 50 x 40 cm, Oil on Canvaspanel

Braminenweihe, 24 x 30 cm, Oil on Canvaspanel

I like the minkey painting the best, there is just somethimg about monkeys that is great and entertaining, maybe it's the fact we can see ourselves in them. I just painted a monkey as well, but he was stuffed.

Did you do this on location, from sketches or from a series of photos you took and based the painting from them?

How fun! These are great. I'm inspired. My new neighbor has many taxidermi animals in his house. Maybe I'll ask to paint his baboon.

...der kuckt so gefrässig,
der denkt sich bestimmt: Ach könnte man für immer leben, aber ausgestopft ist ja auch nicht schlecht?
Der gibt bestimmt ein gutes Model ab oder, stillhalten kann er ja!

Hi Mike, I painted the stuffed monkey on location in the Museum of Natural History here in Vienna. I think, what you discribed, is one of the reasons why I have done several monkey paintings. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment.

Thanks, Silvina! I think you should do this, because they are much easier to paint than the ones in the zoo. ;-)

Hey Don, in diesem Blick liegt so viel und vielleicht hast Du ja recht.

Stefan... It love the monkey.. you've done a great job of catching the expression on the face. I know he is stuffed.. but you have added something to the expression that absolutely makes him look like a living, breathing creature.. well done.
