After a portrait comission I was so thrilled by painting people that I wanted to continue. So I worked with the best and cheapest model one could get: Me, Myself and I. Within selfportraits I try to concentrate on specific facial expressions or a particular light situation, so that they don´t become too elevated.

Great likeness!! The nose bleed is weird but still a good painting! Great painting with you Nue!!
Cheers... Andrew Judd
Hey.. this looks like the guy in the photo at the top of this page!?! Wait... it is! Nice job Stefan, and although we've never met.. I can tell it looks like you!
A very solid value painting.
cheers, Mike
Does it took so much effort that you had a nosebleed from it?!
Nice work Stefan, ....
Sehr gut gemacht.
I very much like the way you left these unfinished toward the bottom. Reminds me of Schmid's work.
Two very powerful portraits! Love the dramatic lighting and beautiful use of color in the shadows.
Well done!
Thanks Andrew, I enjoyed painting with you too and I will post the pictures of our Wachau Adventure pretty soon.
For all of you who are in Vienna or in the vicinity, go to Andrews Show at Café Sperl the 1.October! Infos at Andrews Blog.
Hi Michael, although I didn´t intended a likeness, I fear these look more like me than I wanted it. ;-)
Thanks!
René, sometimes you get so exited during painting that at least something must pour out of you. This time my nose started bleeding. ;-)
Vielen Dank, René!
Silvina, I try not to use these unfinished areas as a manerism. This time I painted each of these in one session and wanted the focus on the facial expression. But I have to admit that I am certainly influenced by R. Schmid.
Thanks Jennifer! I did a comissioned portrait before and every time I do these I become more cautious and timid during painting because I want to please the sitter. So in these works I wanted to be more daring.
These are great. One of these days I am going to work up the courage for some life studies again. I like the quarkiness of the nose bleed.
..hi stefan,
Thanks Les, but I think it takes less courage to paint life studies when when you work with your own self.
;-) Danke.
I like the nose bleed idea, a first in sel-f protraits.
